Double-Header Book Events at AFL-CIO
Tomorrow, we are hosting two fab book events here at the AFL-CIO. If you’re in the Washington, D.C., area, you’re invited to join either or both.
At noon, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka will host an event for Clarence Darrow: Attorney for the Damned, with author John Farrell, congressional correspondent for the National Journal. Everyone knows Darrow for his Scopes trial defense, but Darrow spent much of his career defending poor workers, African Americans and social and political outcasts. Farrell’s book won the 2011 Los Angeles Times Book Award for Best Biography.
RSVP for Darrowhere.
From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., the authors and editors of Undocumented and Unafraid: Tam Tran, Cinthya Felix, and the Immigrant Youth Movement will join activist DREAMers to discuss the book, which celebrates the lives of two leaders of the DREAM Act student movement. The two DREAMers, Tran and Felix, were University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) graduates attending prestigious graduate schools at the time of their tragic deaths in 2010. Undocumented and Unafraid also charts the historic campaigns of undocumented students who have exhibited tremendous courage and determination throughout the country.
RSVP for Undocumented and Unafraid here.
Books will be available for purchase and signing at each event.
The AFL-CIO is at 815 16th St., N.W., Washington, D.C., on the Red or Blue Metro lines.
